Is love ever like it is in the movies? You know, where man and woman find each other and are somehow perfect for each other though they've fought it for a while? Is this something that really happens or just something that is made up? This perfection that we search after but are never really going to find?


In other news, I'm watching Iron Jawed Angels an HBO movie about women getting the vote, and it's amazing. I reccommend everyone watches this. Women, men, everyone. They should show it in class, maybe then people would understand why voting is so important. The things these and other women went though to get the right to vote are incredible. Not just for them, but for me. It bring to light the incredible responsibility we have to vote.

What's so wrong with leaves that we feel the need to vaccuum them off the grass? I like crunching through the leaves! I like seeing them on the ground, even when they're not yellow, red and orange any longer. Why are they such a problem?

I don't like Barnes & Noble anymore...

So I got a job, and I was really excited about it. I had warned them, I'm a music major, I'm gonna need more days off than most normal college kids. They said it was fine. They were excited. Then, their manager got back from vacation, and they ran all of the new hires by her. Oh, I need too much time off. So, they called today to say, sorry we gave you a job and now have to take it away. So, now I'm back to super poor Alison.

If anyone knows of kids that need horn lessons, I am more than available. Please tell anyone that plays the horn. Please!

So much going on... I can't remember the last time i was this stressed out.

However, Kentucky was a nice break this weekend. Went to Keeneland and watched horse races! That was tons of fun. I won $8! It doesn't sound like much, and it really isn't, but it was so much fun to actually win! It was a pretty good time. Anyway, back to homework. Night!

So I was watching Conan just now, and no matter who you really want to win the election, you had to admit one thing after watching Triumph the Insult Comic Dog interview all of the spin guys at the debates. The Democrats really took the insults much better than the Republicans. It was so funny. He just insulted all of them, and in general, the Republicans got upset while the Democrats looked at it as a bit of a joke, and played along and laughed. Either way, it was pretty funny.

You know I worry too much when the dream I had last night was actually about my job as tour manager with Southwind. I drempt that I showed up just as they were leaving for tour, had not done the tour itinery at all and had no idea where we were staying. Luckily someone had figured the first few out for me, but after that nothing. This was no good, and in my dream I started panicing, which is strange 'cause no matter how much I might panic about school, I do not panic about being tour manager. Weird...

Ok, so I had this really long post about why I think everyone should vote, and why I'm voting for Kerry, and now I've lost it. I guess I'll try to recreate some of it.

Please vote. I'm tired of my generation being looked at as apathetic, lazy and uninvolved. I'm sure every group of people in their college years is looked at in this way, but maybe if enough of us go vote we can manage to change this perspective. Besides, I don't care what George Carlin says, you have no right to complain about some of the idiots in Washington if you don't vote. You have no right to bitch about laws if you do nothing to have your voice heard. I know in a presidential election this is harder to see because of the electoral college and all, but please, just watch the debate on Wednesday, see who looks like the best leader to you and vote for them.

Also, as one of the posts that I had here says, just keep in mind, we're not voting for a prom king, but a president. It doesn't matter how nice he seems, or how good looking he is. Vote for the one that you think will make the best "leader of the free world."

Now, onto who I am voting for, which if you haven't picked up on it by now is John Kerry. Here's a few reasons why, in no particular order.

1. I like that he feels a leader should be able to admit when they make a mistake. I don't know if he can actually do it, but I know that Bush in the debates has made this quality into some kind of a weakness. I see being able to say you were wrong and start to fix a problem as a great strength. From what Bush has had to say, he views this as a weakness.

2. I am going to be a teacher. In searching through debate transcripts, Kerry/Edwards talked more about education and what they plan to do with it. Bush did not mention education that I could find, and Cheney only talked about what they had done, and not what they planned on doing.

3. I have not head Bush say what he plans on doing in the next four years, only what he has done in the last four. And this does not help to convince me, as I do not like many of the things that have happened over the last four. Maybe this should serve as a resume for me to review, but please tell me where you plan to go from here! I have however heard many plans from Kerry.

4. Speaking of the last four years, I do not like the way Bush has run a great many things. I do not like how our country has been viewed since he took office. He did have many great moments after September 11, but they were not in policy or decision making, but in comforting a nation that was hurting. For this I thank him, but it still does not change the my mind.

5. After the admittedly brief review of Kerry's positions on things, I do not see the "flip-flopping" that Bush claims is happening. Instead I see a man who does not vote for bills that he only agrees with part of. In the debates Kerry cited that he voted no on the now infamous 87 billion for our troops because he did not think the bill provided specific enough instruction as to where that money was to be spent. Also, on the issue of abortion, he voted no on requiring parental consent for all abortions, not because he thinks all girls no matter the age should be able to abort babies every time the make a mistake, but because the bill did not make any allowance for what I will call "special cases". Are you really going to as a young girl raped by her father to ask that same man for permission to abort that baby?? I think not.

6. Speaking of abortion, I do not agree with Bush's view of all or nothing. (This seems to be a theme when I think of things I do not like about Bush.) Some issues do have grey areas that need to be addressed. After the debate on Friday, it seemed to me that Kerry felt this way, but that Bush did not.

7. I do not agree with Bush's stance on gay marriage. Right or wrong, going with the bible or against, I do not think this is something that we can have written into our constitution. To me it boils down to writing discrimination in to our nations most highly regarded document. Telling one group of people that because of something about them they are not allowed to do something that all other citizens are allowed to do. Not because they have done something that by the laws of our country is wrong, but simply because of they way they are.

8. I did not vote for him last time. I do not like what he's done while he's been in office. Why would I vote for him now.

9. For the cost of one pair of his cowboy boots I could pay back all of my student loans. (ok this really has no bearing on my vote, but really did shock me.)

10. I do not feel like the world is a safer place because of things that he has done. Sure, he has captured Saddam and I'm happy about that, but what of Bin laden? Isn't that who bombed us and continues to put us on high alert every few weeks? I would like to travel abroad, but am more scared to do so now than when Clinton was in office.

Ok, enough for now. And I'd love to hear comments from those who do not agree. Not so that I can shoot you down, but so that I can become further educated in my decision. Maybe my vote doesn't really in the grand scheme of things count, but I'd like to know that when I tried, I did so knowing everything that I could have about the decision I was making.

I got a job!!! I am now working at Barnes & Noble. Well, by now I mean next Wednesday. I'm pretty pumped about it, but I'm a little worried about getting my homework done still. And working out, and getting to hang out with people. But at least I won't be so poor.

Ok, this is funny. Though if you really plan on voting for Bush, I'm not sure you'll like it as much as I do...

I dog sat this weekend for what is possibly the world's most loyal dog. The owner was gone for the weekend, and almost the whole time I was there, she slept by the door waiting for everyone to come home. Besides that, this has got to be the most well trained dog on the planet. One day, I hope I can have a dog half as good as this one.

Winds concert was today. We did really good. I don't think it was great but very, very good. I thought Irish Tune was beautiful. However, it just always seems like there's this other level that we're so close to, but just missing somehow. Hopefully we'll figure out what this thing is on the next concert.

The sky was so beautiful tonight! I really wish it weren't so cold so I could have stayed out and looked at it.

Two random side notes:
I don't like driving home at night in the fog.
I need to not think so much.

I like this list thing I've been doing lately. Though it is simple and not very eloquent, it gets the job done. So, here is another of these thoughts of the day list things:

1. In my religion class the teacher went through an incredibly brief lesson on how to meditate. Though it was really just a short crash course in meditation, it was potentially the most relaxing thing I've experienced, so I'm going to be trying that every day for a while. See if it helps me be a little less on edge.

2. I really would like to teach, and am excited to student teach, I just don't know where I want to student teach at. I mean, if I actually got to pick a school, I don't know where I'd go. There's two that are quite different that I have in mind, and I know that I'd have a great experience at either. I also know that there are some schools that have elements of both of these programs in them, but it's just not the same. Anyway, I'm getting a little worried about where I'm going to be placed when I go to student teach.

3. Orchestra Concert tomorrow at 8! Wish me luck, it's my first concert as principal of the section, and I'm a little tiny bit nervous. I really wouldn't be except for a little mistake that I made the other day that caused the section to miss like 30 bars of music. That got me a little nervous. But I promise it really was only a little.

4. I don't often name names here on my blog, but I thought I would this time. I talked with Tom today and at the end of the conversation he said something to the effect of he wishes he were her (in Ypsi and not New York) so that he could watch over me like a brother would. It was so nice of him to say that, and it really did mean a great deal to me. Anyway, Tom, I often wish you were here too, but I know that you're rockin' it out in Manhattan, so it's ok.

Yeah, still hot.

2. My favorite Texas Hold 'Em player, Annie Duke won the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions, so that was cool.

3. Micheal Phelps is still hot. (He was on Leno tonight, and I still have this goofy crush on him, hence the random picture of him on the page.)

4. If you want to make a girl happy after breaking plans, just tell her you'll make it up to her by doing whatever she wants on Friday, and actually meaning it. :)

5. I did not study for my physics test, hopefully I can wing it.

6. I realize this list is less than exciting, and now I'm heading to sleep. Night!

Should be doing homework, but, there's just somewhere else that I feel like being right now... Oh well.
